rape, violence and crimes against women and children

I do not really ponder for so long when I look back and carry out a mental count of how much destruction and harm we have done to ourselves, all in the name of civilization. I watched on a satellite channel, crime and investigation how a kid by name shenoza, was brutally raped and murdered by a man in the presence of his girlfriend. He made a sexist remark and showed no remorse for his actions.
The man and his girlfriend were under the influence of alcohol and hard drugs. The authorities were not firm enough, to have averted the young girl's death because, the culprits had previous bad records with the law and were not put on red alert. The lady was a street junkie convicted on three occasisons and the man, a notorious criminal.
The crux of the matter is that the culprits and the victims are all blacks. I am black but appalled by the barbaric nature, the young kid was raped and murdered. The cops found her lifeles body in a trash can. How sad and unfortunate. Why do we turn a blind eye and allow those we truly love and care about killed in such a horrific manner.
Apart from being a black man, I am proudly african. We have a rich culture that thrives on hardwork, merit and respect. We are brought up to respect the sanctity of human lives. Groomed to embrace good values and charisma.
The madness that gets in our heads is alien, but we are too weak to expunge it. The madness comes in different forms such as rape, drug usage, alcoholism, prostitution, organized crime and violence.
I wonder why society sits down and watch the decay amongst our youths. I have tears in my eyes all the time, and wonder when the gradually fading hope would resurface. Are we going to rise again? Are we going to respect and command a life of decency and praises?
I am not here to make the scenerio look extremely hopeless but to sensitize our people that we have a civic role to play in redeeming ourselves morally, intellectually and socially as a race.
I would recommend an exchange program between africans and african americans by way of a joint socio cultural commission that would act as a catalyst to identifying, the positive areas that would stem collaborative parnership in areas bothering on social reforms and rehabilitation.
I have a dream that one day we would not see rape, violence against women, children and moral decadence as the vogue in our society. We have a role to play in ensuring that we leave a legacy for our generation and the generaion to come that we are sane and passionate people that have moral and ethical values.
The road map is in the offing. The mentality is being galvanized. The results shall come to the fore some day.
